Saturday’s championships schedule will consist of 18 bouts across as many weight classes with nine matches in each of the men’s and women’s competitions.

Friday’s lone session began with a women’s 51kg matchup between Kazakhstan’s Zhazira Urakbayeva and Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska. While the action went back and forth between the opening two rounds, Urakbayeva ultimately earned a 3-2 victory.

Bout two featured Italy’s Lucia Elen Ayari and the United States’ Jennifer Lozano in another tightly contested showdown. Lozano stepped ahead after pushing the pace in the first round. Ayari clawed back on the judges’ scorecards over the final two rounds and earned a 3-2 win over the American. Urakbayeva and Ayari will now square off in the first bout of Saturday’s evening session.

There were no questions in the 57kg division as each winner punched their ticket to the gold medal match with a 5-0 win. Poland’s Julia Szeremeta, a Paris 2024 Olympic silver medalist, bested Kazakhstan’s Sarsenbek in the opening semifinal of the division. In the following bout, Brazil’s Jucielen Romeu, another Paris 2024 Olympian, cruised past England’s Vivien Parsons in front of the home crowd. Szeremeta and Romeu will face off in bout two of Saturday’s evening session.

Kazakhstan’s Nursultan Altynbek overpowered India’s Manish Rathore in the 55kg weight class to book his ticket to the gold medal match. Altynbek swayed all five judges during the bout and will now face Uzbekistan’s Mirarzizbek Mirzakhalilov, who also scored a 5-0 win over his Guatemalan opponent, Jose Daniel Felipe Mijangos. Altynbek and Mirzakhalilov are scheduled to box in bout five of Saturday’s evening session.

Jamwal also left no question on his side of the bracket and claimed 10-9 scorecards from four judges throughout the match. Reis and Jamwal will contend for the gold medal in bout six during the evening session on Saturday.

Uzbekistan has been dominant throughout the week and Javokhir Ummataliev’s 80kg semifinal matchup against Kazakhstan’s Dias Molzhigitov was no different. Ummataliev was on point from start to finish and scored a 5-0 win over Molzhigitov. Brazil’s Wanderley Pereira overpowered France’s Yojerlin Cesar with a unanimous decision victory, marking Brazil’s third victory of the day.
