World Boxing Cup: China 2026 heads into the medal stages with 52 bouts on day five

June 19, 2026

DAY FIVE of the ‘World Boxing Cup: China 2026 – Guiyang City’ saw the competition head deep into the medal stages with 52 quarter-final and semi-final bouts at the Guiyang Olympic Sports Centre.

Uzbekistan emerged as the most successful nation on the day with six wins that included a unanimous victory for 2024 Olympic gold medallist and current world number one, Adbumalik Khalokov, who defeated the USA’s Salim Ellis-Bey in the men’s lightweight (M60kg) competition.

He will meet the world number seven, Radoslav Rosenov of Bulgaria in Saturday’s semi-final, after he secured a 5:0 win over Shunsuke Kitamota of Japan.

In the other side of the draw for what is one of the blue ribband weight categories at this event, world number three Luiz Gabriel of Brazil comfortably outpointed Canada’s Keoma Al Ahmadieh to set-up a semi-final with Will Hewitt after the Englishman secured a 3:2 split decision victory over Paris 2024 silver medallist Munarbek Seiitbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan.

Hewitt was one of three English winners on a mixed day for his team in which 2025 World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Chantelle Reid outpointed the USA’s Isabella Winkler at light-middleweight (W70kg) and Sacha Hickey progressed at welterweight (W65kg) but saw defeats for his twin brother Patrick Hewitt (M70kg) and teammates Patris Mughalzai (M65kg), Dimeji Shittu(M80kg) and Matthew Williams (90kg+).

The latter lost out to world number one Aibek Oralbay of Kazakhstan who will meet Brazil’s Joel Ramos on Saturday’s semi-final. The winner will face either Germany’s Nikita Putilov or Arman Makhanov of Uzbekistan, who face off in the other half of the draw.

In the women’s competition, Lin Yu Ting of Chinese Taipei secured an impressive unanimous win over Brazilian world champion Rebeca De Santos to set-up a semi-final with China’s world number six, Chengu Yang. The winner will face either Kazakhstan’s world number four, Viktoriya Grafeyeva, or Sitora Turdibekova of Uzbekistan in Sunday’s final.

The other Uzbek female that enjoyed success on day five was featherweight (W57kg) Nigina Uktamova who got the better of Brazil’s Jessica Coutinho with a 5:0 decision and will meet the home nation’s Ziyi Chen in the semi-final.

Day six will see 40 semi-final bouts that includes a potential blockbuster in the women’s welterweight division where Kazakhstan’s world number two, Aida Abikeyeva, will clash with two-time Olympic medallist, Beatriz Ferreira of Brazil. The winner will meet Kinga Krowka of Poland or England’s Sacha Hickey who will fight it out in the other semi.
