Ten reigning world champions are among 199 boxers from 33 National Olympic Committees entered for boxing at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. Competition begins on Monday, 21 September and runs until 2 October at Nishio Gymnasium in Aichi, Japan.
Five titles will be contested by women, at 51kg, 54kg, 60kg, 65kg and 75kg, and six by men, at 55kg, 60kg, 70kg, 80kg, 90kg and 90kg+. Boxing first featured at the Asian Games in 1954.
Kazakhstan has six reigning world champions in its entry: Alua Balkibekova (W51kg), Aida Abikeyeva (W65kg), Natalya Bogdanova (W75kg), Makhmud Sabyrkhan (M55kg), Torekhan Sabyrkhan (M70kg) and Aibek Oralbay (M90kg+). Bogdanova won her world title at 70kg and moves up to 75kg for these Games.
Four more World Champions from Liverpool in 2025 are entered: Uzbekistan’s Abdumalik Khalokov (M60kg), Fazliddin Erkinboev (M80kg) and Turabek Khabibullaev (M90kg), and Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao-wen (W54kg). Erkinboev won his world title at 75kg and is entered at 80kg for the Asian Games.
Among the home nation contenders is Japan’s Sewonrets Okazawa (M70kg). The Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympian won gold at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games and silver at the 2025 World Boxing Championships. He has also spoken of his ambition to win a medal at Los Angeles 2028.
Meanwhile, India arrives after topping the boxing medal table at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, where its boxers won seven golds and three silvers.
The 33 National Olympic Committees represented are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bahrain, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Laos, Macau (China), Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Palestine, DPR Korea, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen.
Boxers can earn World Boxing ranking points at the Asian Games. Under World Boxing’s ranking rules, points are awarded as follows:
- Gold: 800 points
- Silver: 500 points
- Bronze: 300 points
- Fifth to eighth place: 150 points
The rankings may be used to determine seeding at future competitions.
