The World Boxing Cup Finals – Greater Noida 2025 got underway today with eleven bouts at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, Greater Noida.
The host nation, India, got off to a strong start, in the first two bouts of the day which saw unanimous victories for World Boxing Champion, Minakshi Minakshi (W48kg), and Preeti Preeti (W54kg),
Bouts nine and eleven saw Ankush Ankush (80kg) and Narender Narender (90kg+) make it four victories for India on the opening day. Narender’s super heavyweight clash was the only bout of the day to go down to a split decision, with the Indian securing a 4:1 win against Ukraine’s Andrii Khaletskyi.
Uzbekistan followed up its success in Liverpool with three victories, followed by Poland, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Australia, who all picked up one win each. Every bout was a quarter final meaning each winner is guaranteed themselves at least a bronze medal.
Monday will see a further twenty bouts across two sessions which will get underway at 14:00 (IST) and 18:00 (IST).
