The second day of action at the World Boxing Cup Finals – Greater Noida 2025 in India, saw a series of dominant performances from Uzbekistan with six wins from seven bouts.
The next most successful nation on the day was India, whose boxers secured five victories in a day of top-class action that saw 20 bouts across two sessions of boxing at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex.
The action began with a high-quality contest in the women’s featherweight category (W57kg) that saw Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Wu Shih-Yi secure a unanimous victory over Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova.
It was to prove the only blemish on an otherwise excellent day for the Uzbekistan team which proceeded to reel of six consecutive victories with wins for Samandar Olimov (55kg), Javokhir Abdurakhimov (75kg), Nusratbek Tokhirov (90kg), Asilbek Jalilov (50kg), Mukhammadazizbek Ismoilov (70kg) and Jasurbek Yuldoshev (85kg).
The highlight of the afternoon session was an upset in the men’s 70kg as the home nation’s Hitesh Hitesh secured a 3:2 split decision victory over Japan’s World Boxing Championship silver medallist, Sewonrets Okazawa, in one of the best bouts of the competition so far.
Other nations that enjoyed success on the day included Poland, Chinese Taipei and England whose all boxers earned two wins. Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Australia were the other victorious nations on the day with one each.
All the winners on the day are now guaranteed a medal and a place in the semi-finals of the competition. Tuesday will see 20 more bouts across two sessions of boxing which will start at 14:00 (IST) and 18:00 (IST).
