Twenty boxers secured places in the semi-finals and guaranteed themselves medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games on Sunday, 27 September, as the quarter-final stage continued across five divisions at Nishio Gymnasium.
Session 13 featured the women’s 54kg and men’s 80kg quarter-finals, followed by the women’s 65kg, men’s 60kg and men’s +90kg divisions in Session 14.
Japan’s Tsukimi Namiki opened Session 13 with a 3:0 points victory over Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao-wen in the women’s 54kg division. Thailand’s Natnicha Chongprongklang then edged Uzbekistan’s Nigina Uktamova by a 3:2 split decision.
China’s Zhao Xuan secured a 5:0 unanimous victory over Bhutan’s Kinga Wangmo, before DPR Korea’s Pang Chol Mi needed just 26 seconds to stop Mongolia’s Munguntsetseg Enkhjargal in the opening round and complete the women’s 54kg semi-final line-up.
The men’s 80kg quarter-finals began with Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Erkinboev advancing after his contest against Sri Lanka’s Mohommed Usaith Yazmin was stopped due to injury 58 seconds into the opening round. India’s Ankush followed with a 5:0 unanimous victory over Tajikistan’s Nekruz Salimov.
The Republic of Korea’s Kim Minseong secured a 4:1 split-decision victory over Indonesia’s Maikhel Roberrd Muskita, while Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish completed the semi-final line-up with a 3:1 points decision against China’s Wang Xiaobao.
Session 14 began with Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-chin defeating Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng5:0 in the women’s 65kg division. DPR Korea’s Hwang Hyo Sun also advanced with a unanimous 5:0 victory over Iran’s Sarina Naghsh, before India’s Parveen defeated Uzbekistan’s Navbakhor Khamidovaby the same margin.
China’s Li Shu completed the women’s 65kg semi-final line-up with a 4:0 points victory over Kazakhstan’s Aida Abikeyeva.
Uzbekistan’s Abdumalik Khalokovopened the men’s 60kg quarter-finals with a 5:0 unanimous victory over the Philippines’ Junmilardo Ogayre. Host nation Japan then celebrated another victory as Shunsuke Kitamoto defeated India’s Sachin 5:0, with all five judges scoring the bout 29:28.
The Republic of Korea’s Jang Donghwan edged Thailand’s Sakda Ruamtham by a 3:2 split decision, while Tajikistan’s Akmal Ubaidovprogressed by the same margin against Afghanistan’s Emal Hamdam.
The men’s +90kg quarter-finals saw Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay defeat Kyrgyzstan’s Myrzakir Koshaliev by a 5:0 unanimous decision. India’s Narender then secured the only stoppage of the evening session, defeating Thailand’s Adthapong Saengtep by referee-stopped contest at 1:37 of the opening round.
Uzbekistan’s Jakhongir Zokirov advanced with a 5:0 unanimous victory over Tajikistan’s Muhammad Abroridinov, before Iran’s Amir Esmaeili Vandaei secured the final semi-final place in the division with a 3:2 split-decision victory over China’s Danabieke Bayikewuzi.
The successful boxers now move into the semi-finals, with the contest for Asian Games gold continuing at Nishio Gymnasium.
