Nine boxers progressed in the men’s 70kg division as the boxing competition at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games got underway at Nishio Gymnasium on Monday, 21 September. Five preliminary bouts took place in the opening session, followed by four in the evening.
Qatar’s Mohammed Dbichi opened his campaign with a 5-0 unanimous victory over Vietnam’s Nguyen Duc Ngoc, securing his place in the round of 16.
India’s Sumit followed with another unanimous win, defeating Thailand’s Bunjong Sinsiri 5-0.
Iraq’s Ali Qasim Hamdan Al-Sarray also advanced with a 5-0 unanimous decision over Nepal’s Dan Bahadur Darlami, completing a strong start to his Asian Games campaign.
The fourth bout saw the Republic of Korea’s Kim Joonsu overcome Afghanistan’s Mohammad Ibrahim Frootan by a 4-1 split decision.
The closest result of the opening session came in the contest between China’s Li Guofeng and Iran’s Ali Habibinezhad. Li edged the bout by a 3-2 split decision to join the day’s other winners in the last 16.
The Philippines’ Norlan Petecio opened the evening session with a 5-0 unanimous victory over Cambodia’s Vy Sophors. Four judges scored the contest 30-27, with the fifth returning a 29-28 scorecard.
Sri Lanka’s Pradana Mudiyanselage Lahiru Lakmal Chandrabandara followed with a 4-1 split decision over Yemen’s Mustafa Saeed. Four judges scored the bout 29-28 for the Sri Lankan boxer, while the fifth awarded Saeed the contest by the same margin.
Bahrain’s Aly Abdalla then defeated Turkmenistan’s Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov by a 4-1 split decision to secure his place in the next round.
Palestine’s Mohammed Issa completed the opening day’s action with a 4-1 split-decision victory over Chinese Taipei’s Kan Chia-wei. Four judges scored the contest in Issa’s favour, including three who awarded him all three rounds.
