The tenth day of action at the World Boxing U19 Championships saw the remaining finalists confirmed in Budva, Montenegro, with 40 boxers from 15 nations set to compete for gold across 20 weight divisions.
Russia led the way with 10 finalists, while Argentina, Brazil, China, England, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Kazakhstan, Scotland, Spain, Ukraine, USA and Uzbekistan also secured places in Tuesday’s championship bouts.
In the women’s 48kg semi-finals, Brazil’s Elissandra Santos and Japan’s Miki Hiyori continued their impressive campaigns, with both boxers securing places in the final despite their relative lack of experience on the international stage.
China also enjoyed a successful day, with three female boxers advancing to their respective gold-medal contests. Yang Sirui progressed in the women’s 54kg, while Wang Shasha secured her place in the women’s 60kg final.
In the women’s 75kg, China’s Gong Shengjie completed the nation’s trio of finalists, demonstrating the technical ability and punching power that have been key to their performances throughout the championships.
The men’s 50kg saw Scotland’s Aaron Sarwar continue his impressive run to secure a place in the final, becoming his country’s first finalist at this level in a decade.
Sarwar will face Russia’s Vladimir Orlov for gold, with the Scottish boxer looking to follow in the footsteps of William Hutchinson, who claimed a title for Scotland at the 2016 edition.
In the men’s 60kg, Argentina’s Edgardo Nicolas Peralta secured a historic place in the final following a series of impressive victories, including stoppage wins earlier in the competition.
Peralta becomes Argentina’s first finalist at the championships since Fabian Maidana reached the gold-medal contest in 2010. He will face Ireland’s Kalib Walshe, whose punching power has helped him progress to the final.
Iran’s Mohammad Saleh Mesbahi also continued his impressive campaign in the men’s 75kg, securing a place in the gold-medal contest.
The multiple Asian champion will face Uzbekistan’s Sukhrob Rakhmatullayev, with both boxers looking to add a world title to their achievements at youth level.
The men’s 65kg saw Spain’s Pablo Souto reach the final following a series of standout performances in Budva, becoming only the second Spanish finalist at this level after Yolber Bandomo achieved the feat in 2024.
Souto will face England’s defending European U19 champion Yashua Flemming, who has also enjoyed an impressive campaign to secure his place in the championship bout.
In the men’s +90kg, two of the competition’s leading contenders, Kazakhstan’s Vladislav Samozhonov and Uzbekistan’s Islam Salikhov, both advanced to the final.
With all 20 finals now confirmed, the World Boxing U19 Championships will conclude on Tuesday, with the remaining 40 athletes competing to become world champions in Budva.
