Twenty-four boxers secured semi-final places and guaranteed themselves medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games on Monday, 28 September, as the quarter-final stage concluded across six divisions at Nishio Gymnasium.
Session 15 featured the women’s 51kg and 75kg and men’s 70kg quarter-finals, before the women’s 60kg, men’s 55kg and men’s 90kg divisions took centre stage in Session 16.
China’s Wu Yu opened Session 15 with a 5:0 unanimous victory over Mongolia’s Oyuntsetseg Yesugen in the women’s 51kg division. Uzbekistan’s Feruza Kazakova followed with a victory by the same margin against DPR Korea’s An Kum Byol, while Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam defeated the Republic of Korea’s Bak Chorong by another 5:0 unanimous decision.
Kazakhstan’s Alua Balkibekova completed the women’s 51kg semi-final line-up with a 3:2 split-decision victory over Japan’s Yuna Nishinaka.
The women’s 75kg quarter-finals began with China’s Bao Ziyi defeating Thailand’s Porntip Buapa 5:0. Vietnam’s Luu Diem Quynh and India’s Lovlina Borgohain also advanced with unanimous 5:0 victories against Iran’s Parmida Khoshkhabar Oghani and the Republic of Korea’s Seong Suyeon, respectively.
Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova secured the final semi-final place in the division with a 4:1 split decision over Uzbekistan’s Aziza Zokirova.
Kazakhstan’s Torekhan Sabyrkhan produced the only stoppage of Session 15, defeating Iraq’s Ali Qasim Hamdan Al-Sarray by knockout in the opening round of their men’s 70kg contest. Uzbekistan’s Shavkatjon Boltaev then defeated China’s Li Guofeng 5:0, while Japan’s Sewonrets Okazawa recorded the same score against Kyrgyzstan’s Ikhtiiar Nishonov.
Jordan’s Zeyad Eashash completed the men’s 70kg semi-final line-up with a 4:1 victory over Tajikistan’s Shamsher Saidov.
Session 16 began with Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu-ting defeating DPR Korea’s Won Un Gyong 4:1 in the women’s 60kg quarter-finals. Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova then edged Mongolia’s Namuun Monkhor 3:2, before China’s Yang Chengyu and India’s Priya advanced with unanimous 5:0 victories over the Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio and Tajikistan’s Mijgona Samadova, respectively.
The men’s 55kg quarter-finals saw Kazakhstan’s Makhmud Sabyrkhan defeat the Republic of Korea’s Shin Jaeyong by a 3:1 points decision. The Philippines’ Carlo Paalam edged China’s Zhang Jiamao 3:2, while Mongolia’s Bilguunsaikhan Kharkhuu and Japan’s Rui Yamaguchi secured unanimous 5:0 victories against Thailand’s Kangpi Bokhunthod and Jordan’s Huthaifa Eshish, respectively.
Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullaev opened the men’s 90kg quarter-finals with a narrow 3:2 victory over Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Oralbay. India’s Kapil Pokhariya and China’s Han Xuezhen advanced with 5:0 unanimous victories against the Republic of Korea’s Kim Gichae and Thailand’s Jakkapong Yomkhot, respectively.
Tajikistan’s Parviz Karimov completed Session 16 with a 5:0 unanimous victory over Bahrain’s Jorge Lobaina.
The successful boxers join Sunday’s winners to complete the 44-boxer semi-final line-up, with all remaining athletes guaranteed at least a bronze medal.
