Day six is in the books at the World Boxing Cup Kazakhstan – Astana 2025, with 36 semi-finals completed today, setting up a full day of finals tomorrow.

First semi-finals settled in Kazakhstan

The first semi-finals of the World Boxing Cup Kazakhstan – Astana 2025 are complete, with four boxers booking their place in the final.

The women’s 80kg+ weight category semi-finals took place with Yeldana Talipova, from Kazakhstan, winning a close bout by a 3:2 split decision against Uzbekistan’s Oltinoy Sotimboeva. In the other semi-final in that weight class, India’s Nupur Nupur beat Türkiye’s Seyma Duztas via a 5:0 unanimous decision.

Men’s 90kg was the other weight class to hold its semi-finals today. In the first, Emrah Yasar of Türkiye beat Sagyndyk Togambay, who was fighting on home soil. Brazil’s Isaias Ribeiro booked his ticket in the final with a clinical 5:0 victory against France’s Soheb Bouafia.

Twelve quarter finals also took place meaning every weight category is now into the semi-final stage, other than the two finals which were locked in today. 36 semi-finals will take place across two sessions tomorrow, the first starting at 14:00 (UTC+5) and the second at 19:00 (UTC+5), teeing up an action-packed day of finals on Sunday.

Quarter finals continue in Kazakhstan

More quarter finals took place today at the World Boxing Cup: Kazakhstan – Astana 2025 at the Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Martial Art Palace.

36 quarter-final matchups took place across two sessions with all of today’s winners securing themselves at least a bronze medal courtesy of reaching the semi-final stage.

Patricia Mbata, from Nigeria, earned an impressive 5:0 win against Poland’s Aleksandra Cyrek in the women’s 70kg – Nigeria’s first win in the competition so far. In the men’s 60kg, two of the top performing nations met in a tense affair, with Brazil’s Paris Olympian, Luiz Oliveira, edging a 3:2 split decision win over India’s Sachin Sachin.

Previous World Boxing Cup gold medallist Nikita Putilov, from Germany, booked a semi-final spot with a 5:0 victory against Bulgaria’s Yordan Morejon in the men’s 90kg+.

Sixteen bouts will take place across one session on day five, starting at 19:00 (UTC+5), including four semi-finals.

Kazakhstan, India and Brazil shine on day three in Astana

Day three of the World Boxing Cup: Kazakhstan – Astana 2025 wrapped up today with 44 bouts taking place across two sessions.

Kazakhstan (8), India (6) and Brazil (5) earned the most wins on the day, which included 14 quarter final matchups.

Finland’s Pihla Kaivo-Oja put on a show with a flurry of punches that earned her a victory by RSC in the women’s 51kg, while USA’s Morelle McCane also secured an RSC win in the women’s 65kg.

First quarter finals complete as world class boxing continues in Astana

The first four quarter finals of the World Boxing Cup: Kazakhstan – Astana 2025 took place on the second day of action, alongside forty more preliminary bouts.

The women’s 75kg saw quarter final action taking place, offering boxers the chance to secure a bronze at minimum with victory. Aziza Zokirova (UZB), Sunniva Hofstad (NOR), Nadezhaa Ryabets (KAZ) and Busra Isildar (TUR) were victorious in the opening quarter finals of the competition each securing a medal for their national federation.

There was another knockout, this time in the men’s 90kg+ category, with Diego Lenzi earning an impressive win over Brazil’s Joel Ramos De Silva in round two. Despite that defeat, Brazil enjoyed a positive day earning five victories across the two sessions, including from multiple time World Boxing event gold medallist, Luiz Oliveira, in the men’s 60kg.

Day three will feature a further two sessions, the first starting at 14:00 (UTC+5) and the second at 19:00 (UTC+5). Another 44 bouts are scheduled, with many weight categories reaching the quarter final stage, promising an action-packed day yet again in Astana.

Action gets underway in Kazakhstan

33 bouts took place on the opening day of the World Boxing Cup: Kazakhstan – Astana 2025, which runs until July 6.

The hosts enjoyed a good start to the competition picking up four wins on the opening day, but it was France and India who earned the most success – both picking up five wins.

Mongolia, Brazil and England all picked up two wins to start their week well. The event has showcased world-class, Olympic-style boxing from around the world, with twenty nations picking up at least one win.

USA’s Malachi Georges produced the highlight moment of the day in his 90kg bout with Italy’s Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine, earning a knockout victory in round one.

Day two will feature another two sessions, the first starting at 14:00 (UTC+5) and the second at 19:00 (UTC+5). 44 bouts are scheduled including the first quarter final bouts of the event, in the women’s 75kg weight category.

Over 400 boxers from 31 nations head to Kazakhstan for World Boxing Cup: Kazakhstan – Astana 2025

From June 30 to July 6, more than 400 boxers representing 31 countries will be battling it out for medals at the World Boxing Cup: Kazakhstan – Astana 2025.

The competition will be hosted in the country’s capital, Astana, at the Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Martial Art Palace. Several Olympians and previous World Boxing Cup champions will be in action. It will feature the same twenty weight categories used in Poland and Brazil earlier this year, ten for men and ten for women.

The draw will be made for the event at 19:00 local time (GMT+5) on Sunday 29 June.

The confirmed registered nations are Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Croatia, Dominican Republic, England, Finland, France, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nigeria, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United States and Uzbekistan.

The World Boxing Cup is a competition format developed by World Boxing whereby elite male and female boxers accrue ranking points over several stages of competition during the calendar year.

It is designed to bring greater structure and meaning to the competition calendar in Olympic-style boxing and culminates in a final event where the stage winners and other top-ranked boxers compete for the World Boxing Cup trophy.

World Boxing seeks to appoint full-time Secretary General

World Boxing is seeking to appoint a full-time Secretary General to support its continued growth and development and oversee the operational management of the organisation, which is the International Federation within the Olympic Movement with responsibility for governing boxing at world level.

The Secretary General will work with the President and Executive Board of World Boxing to support the growth and development of both the organisation and the sport of Olympic-style boxing, manage relationships with key stakeholders and have responsibility for all day-to-day operations.

The role will be based at World Boxing’s headquarters in Lausanne and specific responsibilities will cover:

  • Providing strategic leadership and overseeing governance
  • Operational management and deployment of organisational resources
  • Management of relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and representing World Boxing at key international forums, including the International Olympic Committee (IOC), other International Federations (IFs), and governmental bodies
  • Legal and ethical oversight
