The first day of semi-final action at World Boxing Cup Finals – Greater Noida 2025, saw the home nation reassert itself with eight wins on another action-packed day at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex.
After being slightly overshadowed by Uzbekistan on day two, the Indian team bounced back with a series of impressive performances which included a second unanimous victory for the reigning World Boxing Champion, Minakshi Minakshi, in the women’s 48kg division. She will meet Farzona Fozilova of Uzbekistan in the final later this week.
Another home nation boxer to impress was Arundhati Choudhary (W70kg) who earned the first stoppage of the tournament, when the referee stepped-in in the third round to halt her contest with Germany’s Leonie Müller. It sets up another India-Uzbekistan final following Aziza Zokirova’s 5:0 win against Anastasiia Chernokolenko of Ukraine.
Other eye-catching performances on the day included a 3:2 split decision victory for Japan’s Shion Nishiyama (M65kg) over Adkhamjon Mukhiddinov of Uzbekistan. The Japanese light-middleweight has medalled at three World Boxing Cups since the start of 2024 and will hope to add a second gold to that collection on Thursday when he meets India’s Abhinash Jamwal.
